More news about: Lehman

Post game interview with Amely Del Rosario

Union, NJ - Amely Del Rosario continued where she left off last season, scoring 41 points, 24 in the second half to propel Lehman (1-0) to a 78-70 victory over Ferrum.

The Lightning trailed by five at the end of the first quarter and 10 at halftime but were able to rally to defeat the Panthers.  The Lightning offense struggled in the first half shooting 10-29 from the field.  However, the second half was a different story.  The Lightning outscored the Panthers 49-31 the final twenty minutes.

To go along with her 41 point, the senior from the Bronx, added a team high six steals, grabbed seven rebounds and was credited with four assists.  Newcomer Lynda Fields added 19 points and six assists.  Almost as impressive was her one turnover in 39 minutes of play.

The Panthers ended the second quarter on a 10-3 run to turn a three point advantage into a 10 point lead at the break.  The Lightning owned the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 25-12.  A pair of Del Rosario free throws with 3:52 remaining in the third gave Lehman a lead they would not surrender.  A quick three pointer to start the fourth quarter by the Panthers tied the game at 54.  But Del Rosario answered with a three of her own on the Lightning's next possession.  Lehman began to slowly pull away.  The Lightning high pressure defense paid off as Lehman was able to force 25 turnovers.

Zarkia Mattox paced Ferrum with 29 points and 18 rebounds.

The Lightning move onto the finals where they will face Kean.  Kean previaled over Alma 76-59.  Tip-off on Saturday will be at 2:00 pm.
