PASADENA, Calif. (July 26, 2016) – The Caltech women's basketball team has unveiled its schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 season, which will include 12 home games and a winter break trip to Wisconsin and Illinois.
The Beavers will tip off the season on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. with a home game against Benedictine University at Mesa, quickly followed by another home game on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. against Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Arizona.
On Thanksgiving weekend, Caltech welcomes West Region opponents St. Olaf College and Macalester College in the two-day Caltech-Occidental Fall Classic. The Beavers will host the Saturday games, with Oxy playing at 1 p.m. and Caltech at 3 p.m.
The Beavers' first conference matchup will be held at Whittier College on Saturday, Dec. 3. After a week-long break from competition, the team then heads to San Marcosfor a game against Saint Katherine College. Fellow Division III member Knox College will make its way from Illinois to Pasadena for another game on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 3:00 p.m.
On Saturday, Dec. 17, the squad will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to go head-to-head with Mount Mary University before heading south to the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. An early lead at last year's game in Pasadena saw the Beavers claim a 79-38 victory over the Scarlet Hawks. Please note that the time for both games will be listed in Central time (+2 hours from Pacific).
Caltech will welcome the winter term and continue through the second half of the season with only conference games, beginning with another game against Whittier at home (Jan. 2). The Beavers nearly earned their first SCIAC win at last season's home game against the Poets (56-53), led by graduated-senior Stephanie Wong (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula), who became the program's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Lindsay King '08 with 1,241 points and ultimately ending her collegiate career with 1,333 points.
For the next three weeks, the team will alternate between pairs of home and away conference games. The Beavers travel to Occidental College (Jan. 4) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Jan. 7), then return to the Braun Athletic Center to host the University of Redlands (Jan. 11) and California Lutheran University (Jan. 14). Caltech hits the road again at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Jan. 18) and the University of La Verne (Jan. 21) before closing out January with a home game against Chapman University on Jan. 25 and an away game at Redlands on the Jan 28.
Come February 1st, the Beavers again challenge reigning SCIAC champion CMS and prepare to battle Oxy on Feb. 4. The team will then make its way to Chapman on Feb. 11. The following week, it will host La Verne (Feb. 15) and Pomona-Pitzer (Feb. 18) in the final stretch of the season, which will conclude with a game at Cal Lutheran on Feb. 21. The SCIAC Postseason Tournament is set for February 24-25.
