Three Franklin Players Earn HCAC Postseason Honors

Franklin, Ind. - The special efforts of three Franklin College women's basketball players on the court during the 2015-16 season have been recognized by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC).

Senior forward Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) earned first-team All-HCAC honors after leading the conference with 51 blocked shots this season. The forward averaged 11.4 points a game and ranked second in the HCAC by collecting 8.6 rebounds per contest.

Junior guard Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) was named to the All-HCAC's second team. She led the team in scoring (11.9 points per game) and made 35.2 percent of her three-point field goal attempts. DeSutter also shot 81.7 percent from the free throw line this season.

Sophomore Kelsey Smith (Lexington, Ind./Scottsburg) received HCAC All-Sportsmanship honors after tying for team-high honors with 61 assists. The guard recorded 30 steals and scored 6.6 points per game.

Franklin tied for third in the HCAC with a 14-4 league record and had a 19-8 overall mark. The Grizzlies advanced to the semifinal round of the HCAC postseason tournament.
