How It Happened
- Both teams looked a bit ragged early in the first, perhaps due to the pressure of a playoff game. With the teams tied at 7-7 with 3:29 remaining in the quarter, Cavalier free throws put the home side ahead by four points, 11-7 with 2:49 left. A trey by Ayanna Thompson got the Ravens back to within a point, but trailed by three points, 14-11 at the first break.
- The Cavaliers started the second quarter with a three pointer just four seconds into the period to grab a six-point lead. The Ravens hung tough, still trailing by only six points midway through the quarter. Down by five points with four minutes left in the half, neither team would score for the next 1:45 until Cabrini came up with a couple of baskets to earn their first double-digit lead of the evening, up 32-22 with 1:48 left. The Ravens would end the half in arrears by 10 points, 37-27 after Cabrini's Dana Paterson made a layup with two seconds remaining.
- A Rosemont turnover followed immediately by a trey from Paterson extended Cabrini's lead to 13 points to start the half. Still down by 13 points with four minutes remaining in the quarter, the Ravens outscored Cabrini 9-4 to end the third period within shouting difference, down by eight, 49-41 after three quarters.
- With eight minutes remaining in the game, the Ravens were still in touch with Cabrini, trailing by 10 points, 53-43, but a trey and layup by Cabrini's Meghan Martin added five more points to the Cavalier lead to make the score 58-43 with 5:45 left. That seemed to light a fire under the home side, leading to Cabrini dominating the fourth quarter, outscoring the Ravens 21-7 in the final frame.
Coach Reber Comments
"I was so extremely proud of every one of our players. They showed great intensity and fire that outdid even what they showed in the regular season."
"The turning point of tonight's game was when Cabrini hit a big shot in the fourth quarter and we had a look at a great shot on offense, but we missed. Cabrini then capitalized with a three-point basket to gain momentum for the rest of the game."
"The leadership that Carly and Brianna showed all year was amazing. They are role models and have led a culture change for the women's basketball program at Rosemont."
