Cohen Scores Career-Best 28 as Cortland Women Beat Oswego, 75-53, to Close Regular Season

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Senior Caysea Cohen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) scored a career-high 28 points and pulled down seven rebounds as Cortland closed out its regular-season schedule with a 75-53 win over visiting Oswego.

Cortland improved to 17-8 overall and 12-6 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons are currently fifth in the league standings, but can become either the third or fourth seed for the conference tournament based on outcomes of Saturday's Fredonia/New Paltz and Oneonta/Buffalo State games. The third seed will host the sixth seed and the fourth seed will host the fifth seed in SUNYAC quarterfinal games on Tuesday. New Paltz has locked up the league's top seed and will host the league semifinals and finals next Friday and Saturday.

Cohen made 7-of-9 shots from 3-point range and 10-of-17 shots overall in 27 minutes of action. She was Cortland's lone double-figure scorer.

Junior Alyssa Crosby (Brier Hill/Hammond) finished with nine points, while junior Cassidy Chapko (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley), freshman Alaina Lynch (Staten Island/Staten Island Tech), freshman Kristy Vitucci (Deer Park) and sophomore Taylor Miller (Freeport) scored seven points each.

Sophomore Annie Ulrich (Vestal) led the Red Dragons with a career-high eight rebounds. Junior Danielle Levine (Holbrook/Sachem North) added seven rebounds and four assists, and Miller totaled four assists and four steals.

Courtney Ameele led Oswego (4-21, 2-16) with 14 points. She also finished with seven rebounds. Sarah Feminella scored 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting and Zana Dillard chipped in with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Cortland shot 44 percent from the field and 37 percent (13-of-35) from 3-point range, and the Red Dragons held the Lakers to 31 percent shooting overall and 14 percent (3-of-21) from the arc.

Oswego cut a 31-21 deficit to 33-29 over the final two minutes of the first half, and the Lakers were still within five at 43-38 with 5:11 left in the third quarter. Cortland, however, finished the period on a 16-5 run that featured 3-pointers from Chapko, Cohen, Miller and Lynch. The Red Dragons led by at least 15 points the entire fourth quarter.
