FREDONIA, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team saw their 10-game winning streak snapped as the Hawks (19-6, 14-4 SUNYAC) dropped a 70-65 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) decision to host SUNY Fredonia (18-7, 13-5 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon.

The teams remained neck-and-neck in the first quarter until Fredonia pushed ahead on 3-of-4 free throw shots and a 3-pointer for a 15-8 margin. Freshman guard Lindsay Bettke (Pelham, N.Y./The Ursuline School) put up a three shortly after to close the gap but a layup by sophomore guard Jacque Law capped off the period with a 17-11 advantage for the Blue Devils.

Fredonia maintained the lead through the second period but the Hawks managed to rope the score to 30-26 as junior guard Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) drained a 3-pointer before following up with a layup at the 1:27 mark to bring the Hawks within two at the half.

Roessler converted two free throw shots at the line to tie the score to 32-all at the 6:53 mark in the third session. The Blue Devils fought hard to shake off the Hawks and finally pulled ahead on a 7-0 run to land a 44-35 edge. New Paltz cut the deficit to three as junior guard/forward Kit Small (Slingerlands, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) put away two free throw shots and a layup before hitting another two point shot for a close 46-45 margin as the clock expired.

With the final quarter underway, the Hawks briefly took the lead (48-46) as sophomore Sydney Pinn (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) launched a three but the Blue Devils tied the score shortly after. After a brief tug-of-war for the lead, Fredonia broke away for a 55-50 advantage. New Paltz easily trimmed the deficit as a 3-point play and a layup by Roessler leveled the score to 55-all.

Fredonia regained control of the lead but New Paltz narrowed the score to 65-64 on a jump shot by sophomore guard/forward Laura Stuart (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue). However Fredonia escaped the Hawks to push ahead, 70-64 with 28 seconds left to play. Although Small would put away a free throw, New Paltz could not connect on another basket as Fredonia took home the win.

Small converted 8-of-10 free-throw shots to collect 18 points and posted seven boards. Roessler scored 17 points off the bench while hitting 6-of-10 shots from the field and 4-of-4 from the line. Senior guard Goldie Harrison (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) tallied 11 points and seven rebounds while connecting on 3-of-4 free throws.

For Fredonia, senior forward Sabrina Macaulay led with 15 points while hitting 4-of-8 shots from the floor and 7-of-8 shots from the line. Junior guard/forward Jamie Curry added 11 points and led with six boards while converting 2-of-2 shots from the line and 4-of-6 from the field.

New Paltz finished the game with a 29.2 (21-of-72) field goal percentage, an 86.4 (19-of-22) free throw percentage and scored 20 points off turnovers. Fredonia shot a 48.1 (25-of-52) field goal percentage and made 7-of-15 shots from the 3-point range (46.7 percent). Both teams finished the night with 33 boards.
