FARMINGTON, Maine -- University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball (11-14, 9-9) senior forward Meghan Smith (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay Region) scored a career-high 27 points in her final appearance in Dearborn Gymnasium as Husson University (19-6, 17-1)) earned a 75-72 North Atlantic Conference win on Saturday afternoon.

Smith reached her career-high on 10-of-15 shooting and recorded a double-double in the process with 14 rebounds. The senior made 7-of-8 bids from the foul line and dished a pair of assists. Kennadi Grover (Cushing, Maine/Oceanside) added 11 points for the Beavers on 4-of-9 shooting with three rebounds. Kelly Pomerleau (Turner, Maine/St. Dominic Academy) had a solid outing with 10 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.

A pair of 20-point scoring attacks by Husson lifted the Eagles past the Beavers. Victoria McIntyre finished the game with 22 points, made five three-pointers, and recorded nine rebounds. Kenzie Worcester contributed 20 points on 5-of-10 shooting and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

The two squads were neck-and-neck for nearly the entire way until the Eagles used the long ball in the fourth quarter. Husson shot 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in the final period, including three attempts in a 1:29 span and generated a 10-point lead.

UMF managed to get back in the game with Smith scoring five straight points in the final minute and Jenessa Talarico (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) sinking two free throws, cutting the Husson lead to only 73-72 with 18 seconds left on the clock.

The Beavers had to foul to stop the clock and Worcester made both bids from the line to seal the win.

UMaine-Farmington earned the No. 5 seed in the North Atlantic Conference tournament after a tiebreaker was used to determine a three-team tie. The Beavers travel to No. 3 New England College for the quarterfinal round on Tuesday. Husson earned the No. 1 overall seed and will host the tournament next weekend while earning a first round bye.
