The Bearcats dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup on the road at Bethany College in a game delayed a day by weather.  The final score was 61-50.

It was all Saint Vincent in the game's opening minutes.  Four points from Mara Benvenuti and a three from Jasmine Weems put the Bearcats in front 7-0 less than two minutes into play.

After a Bison score, Katie Ryan, making her first collegiate start, made it a 9-2 game, but the hosts then embarked on a 9-point run, taking an 11-9 lead near the midway point of the opening quarter.

SVC then got a lift from Susie Ellis, who hit a pair of three-pointers in the final two minutes to make it 18-16 in favor of the Bearcats after one quarter.

The Bison quickly regained the advantage, going on a 7-0 run to start the second quarter.  After a Saint Vincent time out, Benvenuti scored four consecutive points to make it a one-point Bearcat deficit, 23-22 with 6:35 on the clock.

However, the momentum then shifted back to the home team, as Bethany tallied 8 points to run the lead to 31-22, eventually taking a 33-24 lead into the half.

Both teams struggled to find the basket early in the third quarter, with a score from Babette Sanmartin at the 5:32 mark making it 37-26.  The Bison lead grew to 16 late in the third (45-29).  A Benvenuti drive and layup just before the buzzer made it 47-35 after three periods.

Midway through the fourth, SVC cut the lead back to single-digits after a conventional three-point play from Benvenuti made it 53-44.   The Bearcats were unable to capitalize on their next few scoring opportunities, eventually giving up a three-pointer to the Bison before Ellis scored with 2:30 left to go, bringing it back to a 10-point game, 56-46, but the Bearcats could get no closer.

Benvenuti led the Bearcat offense with 18 points, while Ellis tallied 17.  Benvenuti also added 9 rebounds and five assists.

Bethany was led by Hayley Holenka's 21 points, which included five three-pointers.  Bethany's outside shooting was one of the keys to the win, as they shot 10-27 from outside the arc while SVC hit just four of 21 three-point attempts.

Both teams are now 8-9 overall.  In the conference, Bethany improves to 6-4 while the Bearcats drop to 3-7.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday (January 27), traveling to Pittsburgh to face Chatham University.
