Trinity Women's Basketball Ends 2015-16 With Win At Anna Maria

Paxton, Mass. - Senior captain center Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) closed her career on a high note with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and two blocked shots in a 64-46 win for the visiting Trinity College Bantams over the Anna Maria College Amcats in women's basketball action this evening at Fuller Center.  The win gives the Bantams their sixth season with a won-loss record of .500 or better in the last eight years, as Trinity finishes with two straight wins and a 12-11 overall mark.  The Amcats drop to 8-16 with their first loss in three games.

The Bantams led from the gate, using a 48.5 percent effort from the floor along with 16 first-half field goals to hold a 40-29 lead at halftime. Anna Maria used a 14-9 run in the first part of the second quarter, capped by a three-pointer by sophomore Kristina Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) to cut the deficit to five points with 5:11 remaining in the half.  The Bantams held Anna Maria to just five more points in the half in the midst of their own 11-5 run to end the first half.  The third quarter was low scoring, as Trinity finished with four field goals for eight points, while Anna Maria hit just three for seven.  The Bantams took their largest lead of the day at 19 points with 1:39 left to play in the fourth quarter following a three-pointer by senior captain Christina Raiti (Plainview, Conn.) en route to the 64-46 victory. 

Trinity junior guard Sheena Landy (Durham, Conn.) and first-year forward Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.), with 12 and 11 points, respectively, and both added seven boards.  Trinity senior captain guard Alexa Menard (Wallingford, Conn.) added seven points and a game-high six assists in her last game as a Bantam.  Anna Maria was led by junior guard Deja Taitt (Cambia Heights, N.Y.) with nine points. Juniors Christina Gauvin (Dudley, Mass.) and Nicole Mareiro (Acushnet, Mass.) and Russo all finished with eight points apiece.
