Oneonta Women Defeat Cortland, 63-55

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Lyteshia Price scored 19 points to lead three Oneonta double-figure scorers as the Red Dragons defeated Cortland, 63-55, in a SUNYAC women's basketball game.

Oneonta remains in a tie for first in the SUNYAC standings with New Paltz at 11-3 and is 15-6 overall. Cortland dropped to 13-8 overall and is in sixth place at 8-6, a half game behind Brockport.

Price made 7-of-14 field goals and also finished with seven rebounds, four blocks, three assists and three steals. Cara Adams made 6-of-13 shots from 3-point range in an 18-point effort and Bryn Loomis ended with 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Caysea Cohen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) led Cortland with 19 points and five steals. She scored 17 first-half points, but Oneonta kept her off the scoreboard in the second half until the final 30 seconds. Cassidy Chapko (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley) added 13 points, three assists, two blocks and two steals, and Kristy Vitucci (Deer Park) scored eight points and dished out four assists. Stephanie Rice (Duanesburg) and Danielle Levine (Holbrook/Sachem North) shared the team lead with 11 rebounds each, with Levine also handing out three assists.

Cortland trailed 26-13 with 4:36 left in the first half, but finished the period on a 13-5 run and trailed 31-26 at halftime. The guests then opened the third quarter on an 8-2 run, with all eight points coming from Chapko, to take a 34-33 lead.

Oneonta entered the fourth quarter with a 41-40 lead, but Chapko hit her third 3-pointer of the game to put Cortland up 16 seconds into the period. Cortland's final lead was 46-44 on a Taylor Miller (Freeport) trey with 8:37 left.

Neither team scored for more than two minutes before Sara DiPasquale's layup tied the game at the 6:13 mark. Adams made a 3-pointer to put Oneonta up, and the lead grew to five on a Price basket.

Alyssa Crosby's (Brier Hill/Hammond) layup with about three and a half minutes left cut Cortland's deficit to three, but Oneonta scored the next six points to help put the game away. Cortland got no closer than six the last minute and a half.

Cortland will play at Plattsburgh Friday at 5:30 p.m. and at Potsdam Saturday at 2 p.m. in a pair of league contests.
