Women's Basketball Handles Wellesley in Season Opener

Milton, Mass. - The Trinity College women's basketball team knocked off the Wellesley College Blue in the opening game of the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Bantams open up their season with a win for the third year in a row after the 53-30 victory which drops Wellesley to 1-3. Trinity came out of the gate hot, leading the Blue 16-2 at end of the first quarter. Freshman guard Erica Junquet (Monroe, N.J.) led the charge, scoring five points and grabbing four boards in the first 10 minutes. The Bantams kept the pressure steady for the remainder of the first half and headed into the locker room with a commanding 32-11 lead. The second half was much of the same as the first as the Bantams went up 42-16 at one point in the third quarter. Wellesley was able to trim cut into the lead in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bantams 14-11, however it was not enough as Trinity went on to win by 23. Senior center and captain Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) led Trinity with 10 points and six rebounds on the afternoon while freshman forward Erin Cunningham (Wilton, Conn.) added eight points and eight boards in her collegiate debut. Senior guard and captain Christina Raiti (Plainview, N.Y.) contributed seven points, as did freshman center Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.
