Lancaster Bible senior Aubrey Folger became the school's all-time leader in points on Saturday as the Chargers won their ninth straight game by defeating Penn St. Berks, 98-44 at Horst Athletic Center. The victory improves the Chargers to 16-3 this season and 13-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.
Coming into Saturday's game, Folger needed 30 points to surpass Sam Rempel (1997-01) on the school's all-time list as Rempel scored 1,979 during his illustrious career. Folger did the mark two better as she scored 31 points en route to setting the new school record. Folger secured the mark on her and Krissy Pennell's signature play as Folger gave the ball to Pennell and then rolled towards the basket where Pennell found Folger for a layup. Folger will now enter Lancaster Bible's next game needing just 19 points to get to the 2,000-point mark.
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible led from start-to-finish on Saturday as the Chargers raced out to an 11-0 lead just 2:47 into the contest. After a Katy Stover 3-pointer opened the scoring, four straight layups followed as the Chargers jumped on the Nittany Lions. The teams exchanged baskets for a couple of minutes, but the Chargers used another 9-0 run to take a 24-4 lead with 3:15 remaining in the quarter.
After a three-point play from Penn St. Berks' Cassidy Schultz made it a 24-7 game, the Chargers ended the quarter on another 11-0 run as Katy Stover capped the quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers. Lancaster Bible led 35-7 after 10 minutes, with Stover contributing 14 points.
The Chargers kept pouring it on in the second quarter and scored the first seven points and thus had an 18-0 run over two quarters. Schultz ended the run with a bucket in the paint with 7:49 to play in the quarter, but it would be the Nittany Lions' last bucket for almost six minutes as the Chargers went on another long scoring run and opened up their biggest lead of the season. Lancaster Bible's 17-0 run over 5:49 of the second quarter gave them a 49-point lead at 58-9 as Folger had 10 of the points.
The game featured much of the same in the third and fourth quarters. Sophomore Alyssa Bowen's layup with 33 seconds to play in the third quarter gave Lancaster Bible an 81-30 lead after 30 minutes of play. Folger's record-breaking bucket came just 11 seconds into the fourth quarter and the Chargers cruised the rest of the way, eventually winning by 54.

The Coach Says: "We weren't very happy as a team with our performance on Thursday night at St. Elizabeth and the coaching staff challenged the team to be ready today and the team responded well," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "There was a lot of focus today from the team and we had energy. I think there was a little carryover frustration from Thursday's game and the team took their frustrations today."
On Folger's record..."She's an unbelievable player," Vanderhoff said. "She's the hardest worker in practice and in games and there is a reason for all of the success she has."
On three more games next week..."We need to have a week of complete focus," Vanderhoff said. "We have to get better in practice on Monday and Tuesday and be ready for a tough Bryn Athyn team on Wednesday. We have a few things to touch up in practice and just need to work hard in our preparation for Bryn Athyn."
