Panthers pick up road win at Centre, 67-51

DANVILLE, Ky.—The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team moved to 17-2 on the season Friday evening with a road win against Centre College, 67-51, in Danville, Ky.

BSC moved to 17-2 overall and 7-2 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the Colonels fell to 5-15 overall and 3-6 in league play. The Panthers stand tied at the top of the SAA standings with Hendrix.

After a back-and-forth start leading to a 6-6 tie mid-way through the first period, BSC finished the quarter on a 15-2 run to lead 21-8. The second period was more even, with Centre out-scoring BSC 14-12, although the Panthers still led by 11, 33-22, at the half.

BSC expanded its lead slightly in the third, going up 47-32, and out-scored the home team by just one, 20-19, in the fourth period to win 67-51.

Senior Yorisha Bryant led all players with 21 points, going 6-8 from the field and 9-11 at the free throw line. She and junior Laura Van Peursem tied for a game-high eight rebounds each. Freshman Christian McGowan scored 14 points off the bench, going 4-5 from the field including 3-4 from three-point range, and junior Jasmynn Batts added 10 points. Junior Jameice Holmes led with five assists.

The Panthers are back in action this Sunday, Feb. 7, facing Sewanee on the road at 1 p.m.
