The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team won its eighth straight game on Thursday night as the Chargers beat St. Elizabeth, 76-59 in Morristown, N.J. The Chargers are now 15-3 overall and 12-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The win, combined with Bryn Athyn's loss to Penn St. Abington, gives the Chargers a two-game lead in the NEAC South Division with seven games remaining.

Though the Chargers won as a team, the night was special for senior Shanice Smith as she toppled two milestones in the first. Smith not only eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career, becoming the 10th player in Lancaster Bible women's basketball program history to do so, but she also pulled down the 1,000th rebound of her career as well. Only she and fellow senior Aubrey Folger have 1,000 or more rebounds in Lancaster Bible women's basketball history. Smith is the third member of the big three (Aubrey FolgerKaty Stover and Smith) to score over 1,000 points as the trio has re-written the Lancaster Bible women's basketball history book over the past three seasons.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible started quick on Thursday night as the Chargers opened the game on a 17-2 run over the first 6:55 of the contest. Lancaster Bible scored 10 of its first 17 points via layups in the paint as the Chargers dominated inside from the opening tip-off. Senior Aubrey Folger was a force in the first quarter as she scored 14 of her game-high 24 points in the opening 10 minutes, including the Chargers' final eight points of the quarter as the visitors led 25-6 after 10 minutes.

Lancaster Bible upped its lead to 24 at 34-10 thanks to a layup from Katy Stover, who also had the hot hand in the first half, with 6:58 to play in the second quarter. After taking a a 36-13 lead with just over five minutes to play in the half, the Chargers allowed a 10-0 run as the Eagles closed the gap to 36-23, before Smith scored to restore Lancaster Bible's 15-point lead at the half.

St. Elizabeth continued to chip away at its deficit early in the third quarter and trailed just 42-31 with 7:30 left in the third quarter. Lancaster Bible turned the tide over the remaining minutes of the quarter though and finished with an 18-5 run that opened up a 24-point lead, 60-36, after three quarters. Stover hit three of her team-high five 3-pointers during the run as Lancaster Bible pulled away from the Eagles and defeated them for the second time in ten days.

The Coach Says: "I thought we got off to a good start as we were able to get some buckets in transition which really helped us build a lead," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "I did think we allowed too many buckets later in the game and weren't very sound defensively too many times during the game."

Moving forward..."We need to be more disciplined as a team," Vanderhoff said. "We had 28 turnovers tonight and that can't happen. We need a good day of practice on Friday and get focused for Penn St. Berks on Saturday. Though next week is a huge week for us, we can't and aren't looking ahead of Saturday's game. Berks is a big game for us and we need to get ourselves prepared for them."

Extra! Extra!: Folger's 24 points give her 1,950 points for her career and she is just 30 shy of breaking the school's all-time record for points scored in a basketball career, currently held by Sam Rempel (1997-01)...Lancaster Bible is now 7-3 away from Horst Athletic Center this season...Smith currently has 1,014 points and 1,010 rebounds in her career.
