JOHNSON, Vt. – The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball (10-8, 8-3) team lost a heartbreaker at Johnson State College (9-10, 6-6) with a stunning 70-67 North Atlantic Conference defeat on Saturday afternoon.

Meghan Smith (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay Region) tied a game-high with 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor and made 7-of-7 attempts at the line. Cheyenne Malloy (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) tallied 11 points for the Beavers and made three long range shots. Kelly Pomerleau (Turner, Maine/St. Dominic Academy) matched Malloy with 11 points, dished three assists, and recorded a pair of steals.

Johnson's Allyson Bruckner netted 19 points for the Badgers on 8-of-14 shooting with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Domonique Carter-Stanley contributed 17 points for the Badgers on 7-of-12 shooting and Ashley Goddard posted 11 points.

The Beavers faced an 11-point deficit with four minutes remaining in the game, then Smith sank a pair of free throws to draw UMF back to single digits. After an empty possession for the Badgers,Jenessa Talarico (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) made a three-point shot to close the gap, 66-51.

UMF scored the game's following three points behind a Pomerleau free throw and Smith banking in a layup. After the teams traded baskets for the next minute, Smith came through in the clutch with two free throws with 35 ticks left on the clock to inch closer, 67-65.

The Beavers' defense came up big once again on Johnson's next possession with a turnover. After a timeout, Smith scored the biggest two points of the game for Farmington by making a layup with two seconds remaining and tied the game at 67-apiece.

After a Johnson timeout, the Badgers drew up a winning play with Carter-Stanley throwing up the game-winning three-pointer after the feed came from Bruckner.

UMaine-Farmington returns home on Friday to host Green Mountain College.
