Women’s Basketball Wins Third Straight with 74-45 Victory over UMPI

Randolph Center, VT – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team had six players score eight or more points as they used great offensive balance cruising past the University of Maine-Presque Isle, 74-45, on Wednesday afternoon in the Vermont Tech Tournament.

Caselynn Fulton (Saint Cloud, MN) led the offense with 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists on 10-for-21 shooting. Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) posted her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) added 10 in the scoring column.

Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) and Logan Tallman (Heuvelton, NY) scored nine points apiece, while Tallman added six rebounds and four assists. Taylor Saltus (Clintonville, NY) dished out five assists to go with her six boards and eight points. Eleven different players saw action during the contest for the Roos (4-7) en route to their third straight victory.

 

UMPI (2-12) jumped out to an early 4-2 lead but that would be their final lead of the contest as SUNY Canton outscored the Owls 18-5 the remainder of the quarter to lead 20-9 after one.

The Roos used a 13-0 run over a six minute stretch to take a commanding 36-13 lead and opened up a 39-21 advantage at intermission. Six players had five or more points in the opening 20 minutes for SUNY Canton.

SUNY Canton led by 14 after three quarters on its way to the convincing victory. Amanda Hotham led the Owls with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Sydney Churchill added nine points.

The Roos shot 40 percent from the field, while holding UMPI to 28 percent shooting. SUNY Canton held a 43-36 edge in rebounds and turned 14 offensive boards into 12 second chance points.
