BROOKLYN, NY --- The Lehman College women's basketball team won 74-59 at Brooklyn College on Wednesday night at the West Quad Center in Brooklyn in a matchup of the top two teams in CUNY Athletic Conference.
The Lightning of Lehman (13-6, 8-2 CUNYAC) remain in the hunt for the top seed in conference.
Amely Del Rosario, the conference player of the week for two weeks running, led all scorers with 23 points to go along with four steals, three assists and three rebounds. Karrin Walker posted her seventh double-double in nine games, finishing with 15 points and pulling down a team-best 11 boards. Jennifer Navarro finished with 16 points and four assists while Yarmese Jones went for 13, her third highest total of the season. The rigorous Lightning defense held Brooklyn to 27.1 percent shooting.
The Bulldogs of Brooklyn (13-6, 9-2 CUNYAC) were led by Taylor Gallagher with 12 points and six rebounds. Olivia Colbert had a double-double with ten and a game-high 12 boards.
In the first half, the Lightning took a 36-35 going into the break after a hotly contested stretch, with Lehman taking advantage of 15 Brooklyn turnovers and converting them into 21 points, though the Bulldogs held the advantage in rebounding, 26-13, to keep it close. The game continued to be close in the third. In the fourth period, however, Lehman busted out with a 16-3 run, a stretch capped off with four straight free throws from Navarro.
Lehman has now won six of their last seven games, and is in a tie for second place in the CUNYAC standings, holding the tie-breaker over the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
The Lightning will be back on the court on Saturday when they play host to the City College of New York for their Homecoming in a 12:00 p.m. game.
