SUNY Geneseo senior guard Dana Cohan scored a game-high 18 points and went 4-5 from long range while senior forward Allison McKenna recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Knights to a 75-32 win at Potsdam in SUNYAC play Saturday night.
The win, and point total, honored former Knight Kelsey Annese, who was one of two Geneseo student-athletes killed earlier this past week. Annese wore No. 32. It was the first time the Knights had played since the tragedy occurred.
Junior guard Katie Durand had 13 points and six rebounds while junior guard Kara Houppert recorded seven points and made five steals in the victory. Junior guard Kayleigh Cavanaugh added eight points and four rebounds off the bench.
Geneseo opened the game with 14 unanswered points to take a 14-0 lead at 5:06 in the first quarter. The run was capped by a steal and fast-break layup by Cohan as the Knights held a 24-7 lead at the end of period.
Ahead, 30-11, at 6:57 in the second quarter, back-to-back threes by Cavanaugh and Cohan, respectively, extended Geneseo's lead to 25, 36-11. The Knights ended the quarter on a 9-4 spurt to take a 30-point lead into halftime.
Geneseo held Potsdam (1-15, 0-9) to 17 points for the remainder of the game, including only four points in the fourth quarter. The Knights shot 50% from the field on the night and out-rebounded the Bears, 45-28.
Geneseo (10-4, 5-2) returns to action tomorrow at Plattsburgh for a matchup set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
