NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A strong dose of shooting in all three facets helped guide Manchester University to a key Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Opening the final game of the first half of the 2015-16 league slate with a 33-19 roll over the first 20 minutes, the host Spartans moved to 5-11 overall and 3-6 in the league with a 65-48 victory over rival Anderson University inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena. A crowd of better than 300 fans was treated to 40 percent overall and 46.7 percent shooting from outside the arc and a sparkling 72 percent evening at the free throw line by the home side.

A pair of three-point buckets proved important late in the first quarter. After the two teams went back and forth to start off, junior guard Jenifer Lee (Rockville, Ind.) and senior guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) canned back-to-back treys to open a 10-9 edge to 16-9. MU overcame an early second period run by the Ravens (3-14 overall, 2-7 HCAC) that cut the lead to two and built the advantage to as much as 18 in the second half.

Arterburn and Lee's long-range shooting efforts helped them be two of the three Spartans ending in double figures. Arterburn led the charge with 14 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Lee compiled her first collegiate double-double off the bench by scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Samantha Bolen (Greenwood, Ind.) resumed a strong recent run with 11 points.

Manchester University, which moved themselves into a three-way tie for sixth in the HCAC along with Mt. St. Joseph University and Hanover, begins the second half of conference action on the road Saturday, Jan. 23. They travel to Earlham College for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
