BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Linnett Graber (Roseland, N.J.) posted a double-double with 17 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, and Babson College used a 25-2 first-half run en route to a 75-61 victory over visiting Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium.

Babson, which was playing its first home game since December 2, is now 8-4 overall and 4-0 in league play, while Smith drops to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the NEWMAC.

Sophomore Brenna LeGacy (Attleboro, Mass.) finished with 12 points and six rebounds, while junior Giovanna Pickering (Hull, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards to lead the Beavers. Senior Marissa Cicchetti (Mansfield, Mass.) added 11 points and a career-high eight assists, and junior Taylor Russell (Braintree, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points. SeniorKristen Ferola (Amherst, Mass.) also matched her career high with 11 rebounds in the win.

First-year Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, British Columbia) led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting for the Pioneers. Sophomore Samantha Alakai (Pukalani, Hawaii) also added 13 points off the bench.

With the game tied at 15 late in the first quarter the Green and White broke the game open with a 25-2 run. First-year Elizabeth Lane (Skaneateles, N.Y.) scored five points as the Beavers closed the first quarter with a 10-0 burst and Russell opend the second with five quick points to make it 30-17. Cicchetti and Graber followed with three-pointers to cap the run and help push the lead to 40-17 with 4:24 remaining in the second quarter.

Babson, which knocked down eight first-half triples and used 19 offensive rebounds to score 16 second-chance points, took its biggest lead of the stanza on a three-point play by Cicchetti at 46-22 with 2:30 left in the second quarter. Graber went 1-of-2 at the free throw line with five seconds remaining in the half to give the Beavers a 49-25 lead going to the locker room.

Pickering scored six third-quarter points and the Green and White closed the stanza with a 6-2 spurt to take a 25-point advantage into the fourth. LeGacy gave the Beavers their biggest lead of the contest at 70-43 on the first possession of the final quarter before Smith used a closing 18-5 run to get within 14 with a little over two minutes to go.

Babson shot just 35 percent (28-of-80) for the game, but knocked down a season-high 10 three-pointers to go along with a 30-12 advantage in paint scoring. The Beavers also finished with a 57-33 edge on the glass.

The Pioneers shot 36.4 percent (20-of-55) overall and went 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as Babson travels to Springfield, while Smith hosts Emerson.
