SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 8, 2016) – Led by an impressive defensive effort, Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Hendrix rallied for a 69-49 win over the Sewanee women's basketball team Friday evening inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 0-2 early this conference season. Sewanee is now 8-5 overall. The Warriors earned their 11th win this season and are now 2-0 in SAA action.

Sewanee was led early by freshman Bella Taylor and its defense. Taylor scored nine points the opening 10 minutes of play while the Tiger defense forced three turnovers and limited Hendrix to a 33.3 field-goal percentage.

With that, Sewanee led 19-13 at the end of the first.

In the second quarter, Hendrix came roaring back. The Warriors closed the half on 12-2 run which allowed the Hendrix to lead at the break, 37-30.

A big reason for Hendrix's run was its play on defense. Sewanee cooled off from the floor and made only 30 percent of its shots in the second quarter. Additionally, Hendrix rebounded after a slow first quarter and made 8-of-15 attempts in the second.

That trend continued in the third quarter as Sewanee was limited to only seven points. The Tigers' offense did play better in the fourth however, Hendrix still managed to outscore the purple and gold 18-12 the final 10 minutes.

Overall, Sewanee made only 30.4 percent of its attempts. Sewanee also finished with 16 turnovers, which led to 16 Hendrix points.

Individually, Taylor led Sewanee with 15 points while freshman Corey Caulder pitched in 12.

SAA leading scorer Caitlyn Kriesel-Bigler led all players with a game-high 17 points.

Sewanee returns to action Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. contest against rival Rhodes.
