WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College sophomore Haley Driscoll had her best collegiate game with game-highs of 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Mules to a 61-53 non-conference women's basketball victory over Husson University on Monday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Driscoll had 18 points in the second half, shot 12-for-18 from the field, blocked three shots, and had two assists.
Colby improved to 7-3 overall heading into Friday's home NESCAC opener against Bates College at 7 p.m. Husson, now 5-3 overall, plays host to University of Southern Maine on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Mia Diplock added 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists for Colby. First-year Katie McCrum finished with nine points and five rebounds, while Desi Smith had eight points, six rebounds, and three assists. MaryKate Caverly had four assists to go along with six rebounds and five points.
Victoria McIntyre led the Eagles with 16 points, while Rebecca Young added 13 points and six boards. Chandler Guerette scored 12 points, had a game-high five steals, and dished three assists.
The Mules had a big 46-33 rebounding advantage. Husson stayed in the game by forcing 19 Colby turnovers and finishing with 13 steals.
After Colby took a 26-23 lead at halftime, there were eight lead changes in the third quarter. The Eagles had a 39-35 lead with 3:07 left in the quarter, but the Mules used a 7-2 run the rest of the way for a 42-41 lead after three.
Husson started off quickly in the fourth quarter, scoring the first seven points for a 48-42 margin. The Mules countered that with a 12-0 run for a 54-48 lead with 4:39 to play. Driscoll had eight points, one assist, and blocked a shot during the scoring run.
The Eagles cut the margin to three at 56-53 with 2:43 remaining, but the Mules scored the final five points of the game.
