Buzzer Beater Leads Rose-Hulman Past Transylvania

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Cassidy Cain banked home a game-winning 23-foot three-pointer at the buzzer to lead the Fightin' Engineers past Transylvania 61-58 in women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Hulbert Arena.

Rose-Hulman had a final possession with 7.8 seconds remaining.  After a pass from junior Alyzia Dilworth, Cain launched a three-pointer just before the final horn from the left wing and banked it in as time expired to lead Rose-Hulman to its eighth win of the season.

Cain led the Fightin' Engineers with 14 points and four assists on 5-10 from the field and 3-6 from three-point range.  Dilworth was also in double figures with 11 points for Rose-Hulman.

Kristen Hayes led three Transylvania players in double figures with 18 points on 10-11 from the free throw line.  Katelyn Smith scored 12 points, and Celia Kline also reached double figures for Transylvania with 11 points.

Freshman Ally Bromenschenkel contributed eight points, and freshman Chiarra Franklin also had eight points and five rebounds to balance the Rose-Hulman scoring attack.  Junior Abbie Marshall and junior Jamie Loving added six points each for the Fightin' Engineers.

Rose-Hulman relied on a strong second half defensive performance to earn the victory.  The Fightin' Engineers held Transylvania without a field goal for the final 8:17 of the fourth quarter in the effort.

Rose-Hulman improved to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in HCAC play with its third straight win.  Transylvania stands 6-5 overall and 2-2 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers host Hanover College on Wednesday at 7:30 at Hulbert Arena.
