William Paterson Women’s Basketball Stumbles Against York, Pa.

WILLIAMSPORT, PA. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (5-6) suffered a 68-62 loss to York, Pa. (9-0) Dec. 28 in the first round of Lycoming's Hoops for Hounds Classic.

 

The Pioneers will face Rosemont in the consolation game Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 1:00 p.m.

 

Senior guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) led WP with 14 points, adding seven rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Jackie Rodriguez (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) had 12 tallies and three assists, while senior forward Alex Milne (Howell, N.J./Howell) finished with 10 points and a team-best 10 boards.

 

The two teams were deadlocked at 32-32 at halftime and the Spartans owned a narrow 51-49 advantage at the end of the third quarter. A three-point play by Rodriguez and a Harden jumper made it a 54-51 Pioneer lead with eight minutes to play, but York answered with a 7-0 burst for a 58-54 score with 5:20 on the clock. WP pulled to within two three times during the next four minutes, but the Spartans went 4-for-6 (.667) from the free-throw line down the stretch to preserve the victory.

 

Junior guard Sarah Shearer led York with 15 points, and junior guard/forward Sam Hruz added 13 tallies and 11 rebounds.
