OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball outscored the visiting Saint Elizabeth Eagles 73-51 over the final 30 minutes en route to improving to 7-2 on the season with Saturday's 87-74 home win.
Saint Elizabeth (2-3) broke loose from Old Westbury with 2:07 remaining in the opening quarter as Amerisse Rogers' layup sparked an 8-0 run to give the Eagles a 23-12 lead.
Old Westbury answered by owning the second quarter. Jasmine Robinson scored 11 of her 15 first-half points during a 19-7 second-period surge that gave the Panthers their first lead (33-32) with 2:18 left. Saint Elizabeth scored five of the game's next seven points to take a 37-35 advantage into intermission.
Robinson connected on a three pointer early in the third period to kick-start a 9-4 run for Old Westbury's 44-41 lead. Her layup then capped the Panthers' 10-3 run with 2:10 remaining to extend the lead to seven (54-47).
The Eagles pulled within five points before Old Westbury put together a 17-2 run from 9:09 to 5:12 to take its largest lead of the game (75-55) last in the fourth quarter. Saint Elizabeth made it a 12-point game (84-72) with 2:06 remaining but were unable to recover from Old Westbury's offensive output.
Robinson erased her previous career-high of 28 points (Dec. 14, 2015 at Saint Elizabeth) with a 35-point (15-of-22 FG) performance. She added six assists, five steals and four rebounds to her stat line. Raven Pentz used 13 points (5-of-8 FG) and a career-best 13 assists to drop her fourth career double-double. Crystal Barneschipped in with 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks.
Jasmine Poole's 18 points paced Saint Elizabeth's offense while Deja Ingram contributed 16 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks.
Old Westbury connected on a season-best 51.4 percent (37-of-72) from the field and landed 25 percent (2-of-8) from three-point range and 55 percent (11-of-20) from the free-throw line. The Eagles shot 42.6 percent (26-of-61) from the floor, 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from behind the arc and 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the charity stripe. Saint Elizbeth held a 45-36 rebounding edge, scoring 15 second-chance points off 19 offensive boards. Old Westbury dished out a season-high 26 assists and held the advantage in steals (11-10), points in the paint (58-40), points off turnovers (29-23), fast-break points (28-6) and bench points (16-6).
YORK CARDINALS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury is set to close out play in the 2015 calendar year on the road next Wednesday (Dec. 30) in non-conference action against the York Cardinals in Jamaica, New York.
