Oglethorpe rallies past Black and Gold

ATLANTA GA. – The inside duo of sophomore forward Tori Christlieb (Culver, Ind.) and freshman forward Maddy Minehart (Auburn, Ind.) proved an effective one-two punch for Manchester University Friday, Dec. 18.

Christlieb, reeling off her third double figure scoring effort in the last four games, tallied 12 points and ripped down a team-leading seven rebounds. Minehart, coming off the bench, equaled Christlieb's point output (12) and was efficient shooting-wise (six-of-10 – 60 percent). However, those totals couldn't get the visitors (3-5) past the host Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University in a 66-54 defeat.

A 21-5 run from the midway point of the first period to the same spot in the second frame gave Coach Josh Dzurick's team a 27-11 lead with 5:38 to go in the first half. Oglethorpe (5-5) closed the deficit to nine (34-25) at the half and then turned in roll of its own, out-scoring MU 25-9 in the third period in route to the victory.

The Spartans wrap up play in the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic Saturday, Dec. 19, facing Belhaven University of Mississippi at 3 p.m. It's their final pre-Christmas contest.

NOTES: Sophomore forward Samantha Bolen (Greenwood, Ind.) nearly joined her underclasswomen teammates in double-digit scoring, ending with nine points … MU's defense proved stout in the first 20 minutes, holding OU to 27.8 percent overall and just over 11 percent three-point field goal shooting. The hosts came back in the final 20 minutes to hit better than 62 percent from outside the arc and above 51 percent (51.9) from the field.
