The Geneva Golden Tornadoes upset the SVC women's basketball team by a score of 73-66 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action in Beaver Falls.

Freshman Maria Morgan got the Bearcats on the board with a three-pointer just under a minute into play, and a Susie Ellis layup made it 5-0 Saint Vincent at the 8:25 mark.
 
The lead was three (9-6) when Heidi Mann scored on a conventional three-point play to tie the game with 5:33 on the clock, but Morgan put SVC back in front with another trey at the 3:59 mark.  Morgan added another bucket on a fast break after a steal, but the rest of the quarter belonged to the hosts, as they scored on a putback by Callie Ford with 47 ticks left in the quarter to take a 15-14 lead.
 
A jumper by Abbey Conrad returned the lead to the SVC side of the ledger to start the second quarter (16-15), and a score by Lucy Bujdos extended the lead to three just over 30 seconds later.  However, with the score 20-19 in favor of SVC, the Golden Tornadoes went on a 9-point run to take a 28-20 lead later in the second.  Another three by Morgan ended the run, but Geneva went right back to work, eventually opening the lead to double digits (41-31) with less than two minutes to play in the half.
 
A long three by Ellis with just under 20 seconds remaining made it a 41-34 score at the half. 

Morgan led all scorers with 13 points in the first 20 minutes, but the key statistic of the half was Geneva's 25-13 advantage in rebounds.  The GTs also converted on 54% of their shots, compared to just 38% for the Bearcats. 
 
After Geneva scored to open the third quarter, SVC got back to back scores from Ellis and Mara Benvenuti to make it a five-point game, 43-38.  With just over 7 minutes left in the third, Hannah Carroll hit a three to make it a four-point game.  Later, down 46-41, Carroll hit a turnaround jumper, and Brianna McLaughlin then drove and scored with 5:55 left to cut the deficit to just one, 46-45.
 
A steal by Ellis led to a score by Benvenuti with 4:12 left in the third, putting SVC in front 47-46.  Scores from Ellis and Carroll extended the SVC lead to 51-46 with 2:50 left in the third, but a Geneva score with 6 seconds left in the third tied the game, 54-54.
 
Geneva hit a three to take the lead at the outset of the fourth quarter, but SVC regained the lead at the 4:57 mark (60-59) thanks to a three by Ellis.  But the Golden Tornadoes then took control, scoring six straight point to make the score 65-60 with 2:40 remaining.
 
Ellis ended the drought with 2:28 left, driving through the lane, scoring, and drawing a foul.  She connected on the free throw to complete the three-point play and make it a two-point game, 65-63.
 
Down 67-63, SVC got a spark from a pair of freshmen, as McLaughlin sent a pass between two defenders in the paint to Morgan, who scored to once again make it a two-point game. 

However, Geneva scored with just under a minute left on a Miranda Heaney drive, and SVC was unable to score on its next possession, turning the ball over with 29.4 seconds left, down 69-65.
 
The Bearcats were forced to foul, and Geneva hit key free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win, Geneva's first against SVC since the 2007-08 season.

Ellis led Saint Vincent with 19 points, while Morgan tallied 18.  Carroll had a double-double, with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Benvenuti had 7 points and 9 rebounds.  For Geneva, Mann tallied 20 points and 11 boards.

With the loss, Saint Vincent falls to 3-4 overall, 0-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.  Geneva improves to 3-3, 2-0 in the PAC.
