Inferno Holds Off Stars For NACC Road Win

RIVER FOREST, Illinois -- Strong opening and closing quarters earned visiting Alverno College a 68-56 victory over Dominican University Tuesday night inside Igini Sports Forum.

The team's first road win in league play this season improved the Inferno to 4-4 overall (2-3 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference).

Alverno went up 22-13 after the first quarter, but its lead was cut to six at halftime and just three at the end of the third.

The Stars (1-7, 1-3 NACC) pulled ahead, 44-42, with just under two minutes left in the third before the Inferno went on a 15-0 run to stay in front the remainder of play.

Gabby Hood led all scorers with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and tallied a game-best four steals, whileBrooke McBain added 14 points and Mollie Mikyska scored 10.

Alverno rookies Mackenzie Mathies and Donna Zehner chipped in seven points apiece, while Zehner hauled in a season-high 10 rebounds for game-high honors.

Dominican's Allie Tapanes led the hosts with 14 points on 5-of-17 shooting.

The Inferno continues NACC road play Saturday as it travels up to Plymouth, Wisconsin, to face Lakeland College.
