Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight; Stands 3-0 in CUNYAC Play

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team had an impressive performance for the second straight evening on Monday, knocking off visiting Medgar Evers, 90-32, at West Quad Center, improving to 6-3, 3-0 CUNYAC on the season. The Cougars fall to 0-9, 0-3.

The Bulldogs opened the game in dominating fashion, scoring the game's first 19 points, capped by two free throws by sophomore Breanna Maresca. Medgar countered with a 4-0 run cut the deficit to 15, which was the closest the score would get for the remainder of the contest.  

Brooklyn dominated in all phases of the game, shooting over 50% from the field and 47% from beyond the arc.  Brooklyn also dominated the rebounding battle, pulling down 49 to Medgar's 28.

"It was good to see contributions from our entire roster tonight," said Brooklyn Head Coach Alex Lang.  "We are beginning to get our inside game going as well as our transition game.  It will be important that we continue to do lilttle things well."

Junior center Maya Ajee-Thomas had a dominant performance for the Bulldogs, scoring 20 points on 10-11 from the field, while also pulling down six boards and registering three blocked shots in only 21 minutes of action.

Justine Vento continued her torrid shooting of late, knocking down five of seven from beyond the arc, which was good for 15 points in only 15 minutes of play.

Olivia Colbert had a solid night, registering a double double of 14 points and 14 boards, while Twanda Holder had one of her better performances of the season, scoring nine points while dishing out four assists in 19 minutes.

Point guard Taylor Gallagher nabbed five steals and had a game-high seven assists.

Freshman Emma Somers contributed a bench-high of nine points in only 15 minutes.  Somers also handed out three assists.

Brooklyn will have three days to prepare for a possible early-season matchup of undefeated conference teams, as Lehman (2-0) will look to stay unbeaten when they take on York on Tuesday, before the two do battle up at the Apex on Friday night at 5 pm.
