GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Hiram College women's basketball team erased a 15-point second half and 10-point fourth quarter deficit to record a thrilling 62-61 NCAC road win at Kenyon on Saturday.
The Terriers are now 6-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference play, while the Ladies fall to 5-2, 0-1.
Hiram trailed 42-27 with 4:48 left in the third quarter and was down 50-40 with 8:11 left in the contest.
Trailing by 10 in the fourth, the Terriers pulled to within 53-48 with 6:29 left on a 3-pointer by junior Dana Perrotta (New Castle, Pa./New Castle).
Kenyon would push its lead back to 56-48, but Hiram answered with a 10-2 run, capped off on a 3-pointer by sophomore Kaylee Shockley (Uniontown, Ohio/Lake), to tie the game with 1:59 to go.
Shockley was fouled with 22 second left and broke the 58-58 tie by sinking two free throws.
The Ladies would respond with a 3-pointer by Bailey Dominguez to put them in front 61-60 with 12 seconds left.
But Shockley took a pass and drove the baseline and making a layup with two seconds left to give Hiram the dramatic win.
The Ladies built a 12-5 lead early on, but Hiram countered with seven straight points to tie the score at 12-12. Kenyon held a 15-14 edge after one quarter of play.
Kenyon outscored Hiram 18-9 in the second quarter to build a 33-23 halftime advantage and took as large as a 42-27 lead in the third, before the Terriers stormed back for the victory.
Shockley finished with a solid all around game, scoring a team-high 17 points, while dishing out a career-high seven assists and pulling down six rebounds.
Off the bench, freshman Savana Lowery (Carrollton, Ohio/Carrollton) had a career-best 12 points and Perrotta added 11, which is also a new career-high. Sophomore Allison Vannoy (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) also reached double figures with 10 points.
Dominguez led Kenyon with a game-high 21 points.
The Terriers posted a strong shooting performance, going 21-of-43 (48.8 percent) from the field, 8-of-11 (72.7 percent) in 3-pointers and 12-of-14 (85.7 percent) from the free throw line.
Kenyon held a slim 33-32 rebounding advantage, but Hiram saw its bench outscore the Ladies 25-12.
The Terriers will take the week off and will play next on December 14, with a non-conference road contest at Franciscan. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
