Women’s Basketball Upends Potsdam, 89-42

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team capped off its State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play weekend with an 89-42 victory over SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon.
 
New Paltz stormed the court from the outset, hitting 15-of-32 from the field for a commanding 31-11 lead at halftime. The Hawks continued to dominate in the second half of game play, extending their lead by more than 40 to clinch the win.
 
The Hawks rise to 6-2, 2-0 and will host cross-river rival Vassar College on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. Potsdam drops to 1-5, 0-2 and travels to St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
 
New Paltz held a 55-39 advantage in rebounds and shot 40.6 percent from the floor (26-of-64) while shooting 83.3 percent from the line (25-of-30).
 
Sophomore guard/forward Jasmine Bryant (Elmont, N.Y./St. Mary's College Prep) led the Hawks with 14 points and was 8-of-8 in free throws. Junior guard/forward Kit Small (Slingersland, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) and senior guard Colleen Ames (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) each added 12 points while junior guard Morgan Roessler(Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) grabbed 11 points off the board. Junior forward Courtney Irby (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) paced the team in rebounds, notching 10 for the day.
 
Junior guard Laura Coleman led Potsdam with nine points and shot 3-of-6 from the field while senior forward Katie LaVoie led the team with seven rebounds and added eight points to the Bears' efforts.
