WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Allie Coppola recorded a double-double and Nina Davenport scored a game-high 15 points but the Bates women's basketball team fell to Clarkson by a final score of 61-49 Friday night in the Williams Classic.

Bates (0-5) got off to a slow start in the first quarter. With 7:36 to go in the first quarter Bates was down 6-5 after a Coppola '17 (Tarrytown, N.Y.) layup. Clarkson (5-1) proceeded to go on a 16-0 run to end the quarter and take command of the game.

The Golden Knights shot 50% (8-16) from the floor in the first quarter while Bates struggled shooting the ball, making only 2-12 shots.

The Bobcats played much better in the second and third quarters as they rallied behind nine points from Davenport '18 (Freeport, Maine) in the second quarter and eight points from Coppola in a low-scoring third quarter.

Entering the fourth quarter of the action, Bates trailed by only five points.

Davenport hit a three and Lyse Henshaw '18 (Brunswick, Maine) hit a jumper to tie the game at 41 with 7:52 to go in the game.

The teams traded buckets and a Coppola layup gave Bates a 46-45 lead with 4:28 to go in the contest.

But the Golden Knights took over from there, going on another 16-0 run to bookend their performance in the first quarter.

Ashley Loggins led Clarkson with 13 points on the night and Madison Shea scored 12 for the Golden Knights. Clarkson did not make a three-point shot in 13 attempts but they shot 15-21 from the free throw line.

Bates dominated on the boards, out-rebounding Clarkson 51-39. Coppola scored 13 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Davenport had seven rebounds to go along with her 15 points and Chelsea Nason '16 (Boxford, Mass.) pulled down 10 rebounds of her own.

The Bobcats struggled from the field as they shot at a 27% clip on the night compared to Clarkson's 37.1% from the field. Bates also turned the ball over 26 times to Clarkson's 16 turnovers.

Bates is back in action Saturday afternoon in the Williams Classic as they take on Pine Manor at 1:00.
