BALTIMORE – The Rosemont women's basketball team (2-3, 1-0 CSAC) had not played for over a week, but it was worth the wait as the Ravens opened up their CSAC schedule with a big win over the Gators of Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) (3-3, 0-1 CSAC) by a final score of 92-56.
Leilani Naone-Carter hit on 9-for-12 from the field to score a career-high 21 points to lead the six Ravens who hit double figures in the game.
The Ravens would never trail in this contest and out-scored the Gators in each quarter. Rosemont finished the first quarter with a relatively slim 5-point lead, 24-19, but the Ravens turned up the heat in the second quarter, outscoring NDMU by a 27-11 count, and the game would remain firmly in the hands of the Ravens the rest of the way. The Ravens came out ahead in all four quarters, outscoring the Gators 21-14 in the 3rd and 20-12 in the 4th.
Naone-Carter also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Teammate Brianna Macauley also scored a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Alliya Austin scored 16, second highest for Rosemont. Other players hitting double-figures for the Ravens were Carly Hislop (14), Jasmyn Parker (13), and Ayanna Thompson (11).
The Gators were led by Ashley Guy's 17 points while her teammate Zaria Comer added 12.
The Ravens claimed a large benefit in the paint, outrebounding NDMU by a 51-35 count, and by turning over the ball only nine times compared to 20 from the home side.
The last time the Ravens scored at least 92 points was late last season when Rosemont defeated Cairn, 93-29 on 2/16/2015 at Langhorne.
The Ravens return to Alumnae Hall to host a home game this coming Saturday. It will be their first home game since they hosted Penn State – Brandywine on 11/18, and it will be the first CSAC home game of the season. The Cabrini Cavaliers will be visiting Rosemont on Saturday, 12/5, with a tip-off scheduled for 2:00pm.
