PLATTSUBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team captured an 81-71 win over the St. Lawrence Saints on Devona Paul's monster double-double on Tuesday night.

Paul dropped a school record 49 points to go along with 11 rebounds and three assists. The previous record had been set at 36 points in a single game before Paul's efforts on Tuesday night.

No other player in NCAA Div. III has dropped more than 36 points in a single game this season.

The majority of Paul's points came from the charity stripe as she hit 27-29 free throw attempts. From the floor she sank 11 of her 21 shots.

Plattsburgh State found a groove by feeding Paul the rock down low, and letting her size and skill set the tone for the game.

Cardinal guard Allie Taylor added 16 points and nine rebounds in the winning effort.

Plattsburgh State outscored St. Lawrence in three of the four quarters of play. The Cardinals erupted for 29 points in the third. Over the first four games, Plattsburgh State has been explosive in the third quarter, a trend that we may see continue throughout the season.

Cara Waterson and Ellie Gonyeau paced the Saints in the losing effort. Waterson finished with 23 points and four boards while Gonyeau added 17 and six.

With the win Plattsburgh State improves to 4-0 on the season while the Saints suffer their first loss and fall to 3-1.

The Cardinals will be on the road this weekend in the first SUNYAC conference match ups of the year against New Paltz and Oneonta.
