Gwynedd Mercy Women Storm Summit In CSAC Opener

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Basketball Team opened CSAC play with a 93-40 victory over Summit Wednesday evening at The Griffin Complex.

Four players reached double figures as sophomore Alison Szyszko led the Griffins (5-1, 1-0 CSAC) with 12 points. Junior Nicole Dombrowski added 11 while Olivia Bradford and Charlotte Kucowski each had 10 respectively.

Simone Lichty led the Defenders (1-2, 0-1 CSAC) with 12 points but Summit accounted for 43 turnovers on the night, which led to 51 GMercyU points.

Kucowski scored all of her 10 points in the first quarter, helping the Griffins get out to a 27-12 lead after one. GMercyU would hit five treys in the first 20 minutes to help open up a 45-21 edge at halftime.

For Szyszko, the 12 points along with her three blocks were career highs. The team totaled 25 steals, the most since the 2006-07 season.  Bradford tied a personal-best with five while Chandler DiFebbo and Dombrowski registered four. DiFebbo dished out five assists to go along with her nine points. Freshman Marisa Sullivan hauled in a team-high seven rebounds while Julianna Hoisington and Monet McGorda each snared five.

Gwynedd Mercy will continue conference play on Saturday when they welcome Centenary for a CSAC Doubleheader. The women tip it off at 2 p.m. with the men following at 4 p.m.
