FABIAN POSTS CAREER-HIGH 27 POINTS IN 85-74 WIN OVER DELAWARE VALLEY
DOYLESTOWN -- King's College forward Jennifer Fabian made her final game in her native Doylestown a highly memorable one as the Lady Monarch senior scored a career-high 27 points with 12 rebounds as the Lady Monarchs handed host Delaware Valley University a 85-74 setback Wednesday night in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams.
With the win King's improved to 5-1 while the Aggies fell to 1-5
King's opened the game with an 11-5 surge on the strength of three-point buckets by Fabian, Kasey Seitz, and Alexis Steeber.
After the Aggies came back to tie the score t 15-15 following a Dahlia Wilson lay-up, the Lady Monarchs closed out the first quarter with a 7-2 run to take a 22-17 lead.
In the second quarter the Aggies chipped away and tied the game at 24-24 on two free throws from Sam Foy with 7:29 remaining in the half. But Kayla Feairheller canned back-to-back three-pointers as King's outscored the Aggies 20-6 run the rest of the way to take a 44-30 led into the locker room. Fabian paced King's with 14 first-half points.
In the third quarter, the Aggies cut the lead to 10 points on three occasions but King's would eventually build its biggest lead up to that point when a Steeberinside bucket with 0:24 on the clock gave the Lady Monarchs a 64-49 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.
King's continued to stretch the lead, pushing the score to 71-52 after a traditional three-point play by Steeber and two foul shots from Sara Krupinski with 7:49 remaining.
But the Aggies fought back and countered with a 8-2 surge to cut the lead to 73-60 with 6:09 on the clock.
King's quickly regained command and established a 81-66 lead with 3:22 left on consecutive baskets by Fabian. The Aggies came no close than 11 points the rest of the way.
Fabian, a 2013 Central Bucks West High School graduate, reached her milestone mark by making 10-of-16 shots from the field and was 3-of-4 from three-point range. She also added 12 rebounds. Feairheller followed with 15 points with a trio of three-pointers while Seitz also finished with a double-double, totaling 12 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds. Steeber added 12 points and four boards while Spencer shipped in with 10 points. Hoffman chipped in with six points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots.
King's next hosts three-time defending Freedom Conference champion FDU-Florham Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium.
