Bullets Push Past Red Devils

CARLISLE, Pa. – Gettysburg College out-scored host Dickinson College 17-5 in the third quarter on the way to a 53-41 victory in Centennial Conference women's basketball action on Tuesday night inside the Kline Center.

Freshman Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) followed up an 18-point performance in her conference debut with a season-high 21 points to lead Gettysburg (3-1, 1-1 CC) to its first league win. Sophomore Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severna Park) turned in 11 points, while senior Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) finished with nine points and eight rebounds. 

Helen Roberts led Dickinson (3-3, 0-2 CC) with 17 points.

Trailing 6-2, Gettysburg busted out a 9-0 run capped with an old-fashioned three-point play by Duggan and a jumper by sophomore Annie Reilly (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood). The Bullets ended the opening quarter with a 13-11 lead.

Dickinson returned the favor in the second period, erasing a 20-11 deficit with a nine-point spurt. A free throw by senior Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) handed the visitors a 23-22 lead going into the half.

Porter opened the third quarter with a jumper and the Bullets were off and running. A layup by Sam Kennedy stood as the only field goal by Dickinson in the first nine minutes of the third stanza. Meanwhile, Dorshimer dropped in 10 points in the quarter and the lead hit a game-high 15 (40-25) on a free throw by Reilly at 1:20.

Gettysburg's lead remained double-figures for most of the fourth quarter.

The Bullets held an opponent below 30 percent shooting from the floor for the fourth consecutive game as the Red Devils managed to hit just 16-of-57 attempts (28.1 percent). Dickinson held a 41-32 advantage on the glass.

Dorshimer finished 6-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. She also canned 6-of-8 attempts from the charity stripe. Gibbons was 5-of-9 from the floor and grabbed five boards. Reilly added rive points and three blocks.

Gettysburg visits Muhlenberg College this Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m.
