King's Women's Basketball Falls to Scranton in Battle of Unbeatens

SCRANTON WOMEN POWER PAST KING'S BEHIND ROMAN'S BIG SECOND HALF

WILKES-BARRE — Junior 6-foot-1 center Alexix Roman scored 19 of her game-high 25 points in the second half as the visiting University of Scranton women's basketball team posted a 74-55 victory over King's College in a matchup of unbeaten squads Monday night in Scandlon Gym.

With the win Scranton improved to 5-0 while King's slipped to 4-1.

After building a 37-26 lead at the half on the strength of 10 points each from Sarah Payonk and Noelle Alicea, it was Roman who took over the game in the second half. 

After Scranton stretched the lead to 41-28, King's used five straight points from Alexis Steeber to cut the score to 41-33. But Roman scored six of the Lady Royals next 10 points to push the score to 51-37 with 1:44 left on the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter King's trimmed the lead to 55-47 after a Kasey Seitz three-pointer with 8:52 left in the contest but would come no closer. Scranton outscored King's 19-8 the rest of the way to set the fink score74-55

Roman was 11-of-14 from the field and added 12 rebounds in the game. Alicea followed with 16 points and seven rebounds while Payonk added 14 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Jaclyn Gantz chipped in with 11 points and five boards. Scranton shot 46.3 (25-54) percent from the field and 80-percent (21-26 from the foul line.

King's made 34.4 (21-61) percent from the floor and 32.0 (8-25) from three-point range.  The Lady Monarchs shot just six foul shots in the game, making five.

Tara Zdancewicz paced the Lady Monarchs with 10 points and was the only double-figure scorer for King's. Kayla Feairheller followed with eight points while Olivia Hoffman added six points, seven rebounds, and five blocked shots. Kasey Seitz posyed five points, four rebounds, and five assists while Cayle Spencer tallied five points and six boards. Alexis Steeber, Shae Grim, and Jennifer Fabian chipped in with five points each.

King's returns to the court Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. Game against Delaware Valley College in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams.
