Trinity Women's Basketball Wins Betty Shabazz Tournament

Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Trinity College women's basketball team captured its second tournament title in as many weekends, as the Bantams downed the Eastern Nazarene College Lions, 51-45, in the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament Finals on the campus of Medgar Evers College this afternoon.  Trinity, which won the Curry College Tip-Off Tourney last weekend, improves to 4-0, while the Lions move to 4-2.

Trinity held a narrow 13-11 edge after the first quarter of play and a 25-20 lead at halftime, as both teams struggled from the field.  The Lions shot 29 percent  from the floor in the opening half while the Bantams connected on 30.6 percent of their field-goal attempts.  Eastern Nazarene snagged a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter, 34-33, after outscoring Trinity 14-8 in the third stanza, but the Bantams outscored the Lions, 18-11, in the fourth quarter.

Trinity shot 28.1 percent from the floor but sank 13 of 16 efforts from the free throw line. Each squad drained a pair of three-pointers on 13 attempts.  Senior captain center Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) paced the Bantams with 29 points and 19 rebounds in the contest.  Elia Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored a team-best 10 points and added six rebounds for the Lions.
