Alex Moore Registers 18 Points in, 84-59, Loss to Roger Williams

Bristol, R.I.--Rhode Island College junior guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) scored a game-high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists as the Anchorwomen fell to Roger Williams, 84-59, at the Campus Rec Center on Sunday afternoon.

 

The first quarter started as a back and forth affair, with the Anchorwomen (2-3) knotting the game at 8-8 on a layup by senior forward Devin Hill (Danielson, CT) with 6:28 left in the period. The Hawks (4-2) regained control, however, outscoring RIC, 16-8, over the remainder of the quarter to take a 24-16 lead into the second.

 

RWU upped its lead to 10, 29-19, following a three-pointer by sophomore forward Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, MA) just 59 seconds into the second quarter. The Anchorwomen used a strong offensive effort to rally, cutting the Hawks' lead down to three, 38-35, following a trey by freshman guard Abbey Burke (East Greenwich, RI) with one second left in the half.

 

The Hawks shot 56.5 percent (13-for-23) from the field in the half with the Anchorwomen shooting 43.8 percent (14-for-32) as a team.

 

Roger Williams used a strong opening three minutes after the halftime break to extend its lead back to 10, 47-37, following a three-pointer by junior guard Katie Lowerre (Sharon, MA). A layup by Hill cut the deficit back down to single digits at 47-39, but the Hawks used a 16-9 run to close the quarter to go up by 15, 63-48. The Hawks used a stifling defensive effort in the final 10 minutes to cruise to the 25 point victory, outscoring the Anchorwomen, 21-11, in the last quarter to secure the victory.

 

Moore led the way with 18 points with Hill scoring 16 points, adding eight boards and dishing out three assists. Burke chipped in seven points and two steals in the defeat. RIC shot 36.7 percent (22-for-60) from the field and 23.8 percent (5-for-21) from downtown.

 

Lowerre led the way for Roger Williams with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Junior center Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, MA) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. The Hawks shot 51.8 percent (29-for-56) from the field and 86.4 percent (19-for-22) from the charity stripe.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Johnson & Wales on Thursday, Dec. 3 (5:30 p.m.).
