Gettysburg Breezes Past F&M

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) turned in her third consecutive 20-point effort as the Gettysburg College women's basketball team cruised to a 72-51 victory over Franklin & Marshall College Wednesday evening inside Bream Gym. 

Gettysburg (16-7, 10-7 CC) finished with 22 assists on 27 field goals as 11 different players reached the scoring column. The Bullets posted nine blocked shots in the contest and broke the school's single-season record. The squad now has 135 blocked shots on the year – eight more than the previous record.   

Porter finished 12-of-20 from the floor and hit one free throw on the way to a game-high 25 points. The reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week, she has scored at least 22 points in each of her last three contests. 

Senior Jenna Swope (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) logged an impressive stat line of seven points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. Junior Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) finished with eight points and seven boards, while freshman Annie Reilly (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) logged seven points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots. 

Gettysburg never trailed thanks to a 13-2 run to open the game. The lead dipped to single-digits only once in the remainder of the frame and reached 18 (25-7) on a putback by senior Samantha Pagel (Harleysville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) at 9:35. 

After holding a 31-18 edge the break, the Bullets allowed Franklin & Marshall (5-19, 2-15 CC) to score the first bucket of the second half. But that score was followed by 11 consecutive points by the hosts, including the final seven by Reilly to boost the advantage to 42-20 with 16:34 remaining in the game. The lead never dipped below 12 the rest of the way. 

Gettysburg shot 27-of-66 (40.9 percent) from the floor and grabbed a season-high 62 rebounds. The Bullets out-scored the Diplomats 17-1 in second-chance points. 

Anajha Burnett led Franklin & Marshall with 14 points, while Erica Brown posted 10 points and seven rebounds. 

Gettysburg closes the regular season at home against McDaniel College (22-2, 15-2 CC) on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m.
