GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior forward Shannon McGinnis scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Knights over visiting Potsdam, 69-46, for the team's sixth-straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory, Saturday afternoon.
Junior guard Dana Cohan recorded 12 points while senior forward Lea Sobieraski added nine points and junior forward Allison McKenna had seven points and seven rebounds in the win.
Play went back and forth for the first few minutes of the first half as the score was tied at nine with 13:33 on the clock and then at 11 just under two minutes later. At 10:02, sophomore guard Kara Houppert hit a shot from beyond the arc to give Geneseo a seven-point advantage, 18-11. Houppert was credited with seven points on the night.
With 5:44 on the clock, senior guard Biz Reinhardt, who finished with a game-high seven assists, converted a three-point play to put the team up, 29-23, over the Bears (1-15, 0-9 SUNYAC). With just six seconds left in the first half, McGinnis hit a shot from long range to give the Knights a 12-point lead at halftime, 41-29.
At 16:48 in the second half, McGinnis made another three-pointer to put Geneseo up, 50-32. With the lead cut to 12, 51-39, at 12:55, the Knights went on a 14-0 run to go ahead 65-39 with 3:09 left to seal the victory. The run was capped by a three from first-year guard Sam Barry as Cohan contributed eight of the 14 points
The Knights (12-4, 8-1 SUNYAC) return to action Friday, Jan. 30, against Brockport. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Schrader Gymnasium.
