Cortland Women Beat Potsdam in Final Regular-Season Home Tilt

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland's six women's basketball seniors combined for 61 points and 14 assists in their final regular-season home game as the Red Dragons defeated Potsdam, 88-53.

Cortland improved to 19-4 with its sixth straight victory and remained in second place in the SUNYAC standings at 13-3 with two games left. The Red Dragons play Tuesday at Brockport and Friday at Oswego and need either one win or one New Paltz loss to clinch second place and a bye into the SUNYAC tournament semifinals.

Brittany Rando (Owego/Owego Free Academy) led Cortland with a career-high 21 points, including 7-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. She finished one 3-pointer shy of tying the school single-game record of eight treys, held by three players.

Erin Wolstenholme (Oneonta) and Rae Frasier (Schenectady) each scored 14 points, with Wolstenholme dishing out four assists and Frasier grabbing seven rebounds. Brooke DeMarco (Grand Island), making her first collegiate start, finished with eight points and two assists. Lindsey Minor (Wheatley Heights/St. John the Baptist) led the team with five assists and three steals and Sarah Seger (Wantagh/L.I. Lutheran) ended with four points and two assists. The six seniors were honored prior to the game.

Also for the Red Dragons, junior Brittney Dumas (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists and junior Shannon White (West Islip/St. Anthony's) dished out four assists.

Potsdam (1-21, 0-15 SUNYAC) was led by Carli Reynolds with 24 points and Bailey Weigel with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Cortland shot 59 percent from the field overall and 53 percent (9-of-17) from 3-point range. Potsdam made 38 percent of its shots, including 10-of-27 (37 percent) from the 3-point arc. Reynolds hit 5-of-10 treys. The Bears turned the ball over 22 times to only 10 turnovers for the Red Dragons.

Cortland scored the first nine points and never looked back. The Red Dragons led 31-11 with 5:58 left in the half and 43-23 at halftime. Cortland then opened the second half on a 14-2 run and led 57-25 with 14:45 remaining.
