Seniors Tobie, Aquino Lead No. 8 Montclair St. Past New Jersey City in Home Finale, 80-44

Montclair, NJ – Senior forward MELISSA TOBIE (Elizabeth, NJ / Roselle Catholic) posted a solid double-double of 17 points, 15 rebounds along with six assist and four steals as No. 8/9 Montclair State rolled past New Jersey City University 80-45  in their regular-season home finale on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 23-1, 16-1 in the NJAC and sets up a battle for home court in the 2015 NJAC Tournament on Wednesday, February 18 when they battle Richard Stockton in Galloway Township at 6:00pm. The Ospreys handed the Red Hawks their only loss of the season back on January 14th, 61-60 snapping MSU's 42-game home winning streak.

Shooting was the difference in the first half of play as the Red Hawks opened the game on a 23-4 run. The Gothic Knights didn't record their first points of the game until there was 9:51 remaining, and didn't connect from the field until almost a minute later.  Montclair held NJCU to 14 percent from the field, while shooting nearly 48 percent themselves. Tobie almost recorded her double-double in the first stanza, registering 10 points and nine rebounds.

Bria Smith (Bayonne, NJ  St. Dominic Academy) chipped in six points off the bench for the Gothic Knights (9-15, 3-14), who trailed 40-11 going into the second period.
The Red Hawks continued the hot shooting in the second period, opening with an 8-2 run, capped off by a layup by freshman KATIE SIRE (Hazlet, NJ / Raritan), stretching the lead to 48-13. Jade Medley scored nine points in the second half for the Gothic Knights, who doubled their shooting percentage over the final 20 minutes, shooting percent.

Aquino had 14 points for MSU which got 10 points and six assists from KATE TOBIE (Elizabeth, NJ / Roselle Catholic). Montclair finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field. ZOE CURTIS (Little Silver, NJ / Red Bank Regional) chipped in with 10 points off the bench with TAYLOR HARMON (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) adding eigh along with three rebounds.  

Smith had 13 points and eight boards to lead the Gothic Knights, who shot 22 percent for the game. The Red Hawks finished with 44 points in the paint, and forced NJCU into 19 turnovers.
