No. 25 Cavaliers Extend Win Streak to 14 With 95-59 Win over Neumann

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team reached the 20 win plateau for the third consecutive season with tonight's convincing 95-59 victory over the visiting Neumann University Knights.  

Tonight's win improves the No. 25 Cavaliers to 20-3 on the season and a perfect 14-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.  The victory also extends the Blue and White's win streak to 14 games.

Four Cavaliers scored in double figures in tonight's win, led by senior Amber Keys' 21 points, including 15 in the second half.  Junior Meghan Martin added a career high 19 points on 6-6 from the floor, including a trio of three pointers.

Sophomore Tayler Holmes also tallied a career high, scoring 15 points, while senior Megan Decker paired 11 points and seven boards.

While the Blue and White have typically relied on a suffocating defense, the Cavaliers' offense was the star of the night.  Cabrini shot 51.5% for the game, including a blistering 57% in the second half.  The club also connected on 8-14 from three point range and 73% from the free throw line.

On the other side of the floor, Cabrini held Neumann to just 32.7% shooting, with just six of its 19 field goals coming in the first half.  The Cavaliers also forced the Knights into 21 turnovers, which it converted into 26 points.

Cabrini also dominated the paint, outrebounding Neumann 42-27, including 15 offensive boards.  The Cavaliers also outscored the Knights 40-12 in the lane.

The Cavaliers controlled the action from the opening tip, as the club used an early 7-0 spurt to build a 16-10 lead.  Minutes later, Holmes' tradition three point play sparked a 9-0 run, extending the leaf to 30-15 with 8:24 left in the first half.

Martin's three pointer just before the halftime buzzer sent the Cavaliers into the break with a commanding 43-27 advantage.     

The halftime rest did nothing to slow the Blue and White attack, as back to back Holmes triples pushed the lead to 57-34 just over four minutes into the stanza.  

Cabrini removed all thoughts of a comeback with an 11-3 run during a five minute span midway through the half.  During that span, the Cavaliers held Neumann to 1-7 from the field and forced three turnovers.  Meanwhile, the Blue and White turned to Keys who recorded six points and an assist during the run.

Junior Sarah Roberts led teh Knights (10-12, 7-6 CSAC) with 11 points, five rebounds and six assists, while senior Jessica Schlessman and junior JoHanna Metzger added 10 points each.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday, as they travel to Immaculata University (14-7, 11-1 CSAC) for the biggest game of the season. With just two games remaining in the regular season, the Blue and White hold a one game lead over the Mighty Macs.  Tip is slated for 1 p.m.

Cabrini scored a 71-40 victory over the Mighty Macs when the clubs met at Nerney Field House on Jan. 22.  Five Cavaliers scored at least eight points in the win, led by Keys, who 17 points and 12 rebounds to go with two assists, two steals and three blocked shots.

The Blue and White put on a dominant defensive performance in the win, holding Immaculata to just 26.7% shooting on 16-60 from the floor.  The Mighty Macs also hit just one of their 11 three point attempts on the night.

Cabrini also dominated the glass, outrebounding Immaculata 60-33, including 25-11 on the offensive boards leading to a 24-8 advantage in second chance points.
