Scranton, PA – Jazmyn Robinson (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern) scored a game-high 23 points and led all players with seven assist lift Keystone College to a crucial, 83-69 victory at Marywood University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action. The Giants improve to 10-11 overall and 7-5 in conference play while the Pacers see their record drop to 13-7 on the season and 8-4 in the CSAC.
After Marywood scored the first two field goals of Saturday afternoon's contest, Keystone scored 11 unanswered points to open up a seven-point advantage early in the game. The Pacers cut their deficit to as few as four points before the Giants used a 13-3 run to open up a 36-21 lead with 5:18 remaining in the first half. Keystone maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the period and took a 46-36 lead into the intermission.
Robinson recorded 12 points and four assists in the first half while AAliya Hayes (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) and Alyssa Cuomo (Odessa, DE/Hodgson Vo-tech) scored nine points apiece in the opening 20 minutes of play for Keystone. Cuomo also led all players with seven rebounds for the Giants, who shot 43.6 percent from the field in the first half while going 4-9 from three-point range and 8-10 from the free throw line in the period.
Maggie Presnal paced Marywood with 12 points and five rebounds in the first half while Lindsey Schroth added six points for the Pacers, who hit on 41 percent of their attempts from the floor in the frame while going 1-7 from beyond the arc and 3-5 from the charity stripe.
Marywood trimmed their deficit to seven points, 53-46, seven and a half minutes into the second stanza, but Keystone countered with an 11-5 spurt to hold a 64-51 cushion midway through the half. The Giants extended the lead to as many as 15 points before a 9-2 run by the host cut Keystone's advantage to 73-65 with 2:20 left on the clock. Cierra Hensley (Frederick, MD/Frederick) snapped the Pacers' run with a jumper and the Giants went a perfect, 6-6 from the line to seal the victory.
Robinson's game-high 23 points came on an 8-14 performance from the floor while the senior guard went 5-6 from the free throw line. Hensley finished the contest with 14 points while Cuomo added her second double-double of the season on 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Ashley Evans (Wooster, OH/Wooster) also netted 13 points for the Giants while Jerica Rode (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack) corralled 10 boards while blocked three shots in the game.
Keystone, who held a 49-41 advantage in rebounding for the game, finished the afternoon shooting 43.8 percent from the field, 26.7 percent from downtown, and 82.1 percent from the line.
Presnal led Marywood with 17 points and eight rebounds while Danielle Terranella added 13 points and seven boards. Maddie Lavery contributed 12 points for the Pacers, who connected on 38.7 percent of their field goal attempts for the game while going just 3-16 from three-point land and 53.3 percent from the stripe.
Keystone is slated to return to action on Monday evening with a CSAC game at Cedar Crest College. The Giants, who defeated the Falcons at home in December, 80-42, will be looking to complete the season-sweep starting at 7:00 p.m. in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
