CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team fell by a score of 63-44 to the University of Chicago in Friday University Athletic Association action at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

The Spartans dip to 7-12 overall and 1-7 in the UAA. The Maroons improve to 13-6 and stay tied atop the league standings at 7-1.

CWRU was limited to a season low for points. Sophomore guard Jessica McCoy (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) posted nine, while freshman forward Kara Hageman (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and senior wing Brooke Orcutt (Morrison, Colo./Dakota Ridge) each contributed eight.

Claire Devaney (12), Hannah Ballard (11), Elizabeth Nye (10) and Morgan Donovan (9) led the Maroons in the scoring column. Ballard also grabbed seven rebounds.

After a slow start for each side, Chicago scored eight in a row and led 16-7 when Nye hit a three-pointer with 10:50 on the clock. Overall during the run, the Spartans went scoreless for 3:05. Another scoreless stretch of 4:03 followed after the next CWRU bucket, but the Spartans were able to score the final seven in the half as Chicago led at the break, 29-18.

In the second, the Spartans pulled as close as seven with an Orcutt jumper which brought the score to 39-32 with 13:21 remaining. However, the Maroons pieced together a 9-2 run in response to regain control of the game.

For the night, the Maroons dominated in the paint, outscoring the Spartans, 38-16.

The Spartans wrap up the weekend at home this Sunday, February with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off against No. 6/7 nationally ranked Washington University (Mo.).
