Six Mariners Finish in Double Digits in Win vs. DWC

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Six Mitchell College players scored in double digits and four recorded double-doubles in an 89-54 victory over Daniel Webster College on Thursday night in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

Amanda Garcia posted game highs of 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Mariners (7-11 overall, 7-5 NECC) to victory. Diamond Thomas, Savannah Boyle and Samantha Ryan chipped in with 15 points apiece while Jessica Shepherd and Dazjavia Williams each added 12.  

Ashley England and Kayla Free netted 11 points apiece to pace Daniel Webster (3-15 overall, 3-8 NECC).

After the Mariners scored the first four points of the contest, the Eagles answered with six straight points to take their first and only lead. England tied the game with a four-point play, and Free put Daniel Webster on top with a bucket moments later.

Mitchell responded with 14 straight points over the next 3:07 to seize control. Five different players scored during the stretch that included three-pointers from both Boyle and Shepherd.
The Mariners outscored the Eagles 27-13 over the final 12 minutes of the first half to lead 45-22 at the break. Mitchell extended the margin to as many as 39 points in the second half and never let the lead dip below 25.

Garcia's double-double was her team-leading eighth of the season. Ryan (12 rebounds), Shepherd (11) and Williams (11) also notched double-doubles on the night as the Mariners held a commanding 69-39 edge on the glass. Boyle's 15 points were a season high, and both she and Shepherd finished with four three-pointers each.

Mitchell will next play at Southern Vermont College on Saturday, February 7 at 1 p.m. Daniel Webster returns to action at home against Bay Path University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
