SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 1, 2015) – A game-high 27 points by senior all-conference selection Chanlir Segarra helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Berry hold on for a 84-77 win in overtime, Sunday, against the Sewanee women's basketball team inside Juhan Gymnasium.

Sewanee drops to 10-8 overall and 2-6 in league play. Close games continue to hurt the Tigers, as Sewanee has now lost four conference home contests by a combined 17 points.

After a slow start by the Tigers, Sewanee finally settled in. A jumper by freshmanRebekah Faulkner sparked a 8-0 Tiger run. Both teams would then trade scores throughout the first half. Berry eventually led by three, 30-27, at halftime.

Sewanee opened the second with back-to-back threes by Savannah Rose. Those shots gave the Tigers a three-point lead, 33-30.

Berry answered back with a 6-0 run. Sewanee eventually led by as much as eight, 50-42. During that stretch, Rose hit another three while Kayla Sewell, Faulkner, and Hannah McCormack also scored.

From there, Segarra took over. The senior guard for Berry scored nine points and had three assists over the next five minutes.

With 1:15 left to play, Berry stretched its lead to 10, 69-59, after Segarra made two free throws. However, to more threes by Rose, and an old fashion three-point play by Jamie Chauvin, cut the Vikings' lead to two, 70-68, with 26 seconds left.

Sewanee got the ball back with 17 seconds remaining after Marissa Ivey missed two free throws. After a timeout by head coach Tom Campbell, McCormack missed a jumper with five seconds left. However, on the ensuing rebound, Faulkner grabbed the loose ball and put back a layup to tie the game at 70-70.

In the extra period, Segarra was Berry's answer. She scored 12 of the Vikings' 14 points.

Overall, Sewanee made 44.7 percent of its attempts. The Tigers were undone by Berry's ability to rebound. The Vikings, who rank first in the SAA in rebounds, grabbed 47 boards to Sewanee's 40. That led to 16 Berry second-chance points.

Individually, Chauvin led Sewanee with 19 points. Faulkner also played well with her first career double-double. The first-year forward finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Rose (15 points) and McCormack, (11 points) also finished in double figures.

Sewanee returns to action with a 6:00 p.m. contest next Friday against Hendrix.
