CHICAGO - Freshman forward Kara Hageman (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and senior forward Berit Eppard (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) scored 12 points apiece, but the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team lost a Friday night University Athletic Association matchup against the University of Chicago, 74-59, at the Ratner Athletics Center.

The Spartans are now 7-10 overall and 1-5 in the UAA, while the Maroons improve to 11-6 and tied for first in the UAA at 5-1.

Hageman also pulled down six rebounds, while Eppard tallied seven boards and three steals. Senior post Brooke Orcutt (Morrison, Colo./Dakota Ridge) contributed nine points, eight rebounds and two assists. Senior point guard Amanda Germer (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) tied a career high with six assists.

Chicago placed four players in double-digits led by Elizabeth Nye with 19 points and Morgan Donovan with 17. Claire Devaney and Caitlin Moore contributed 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Despite the Spartans holding the lead in the early portions of the first half, the Maroons built an advantage of 10 with 3:09 on the clock as Devaney dropped in a layup to make the score 33-23. The Spartans then scored eight of the next 12, and with just 0:09 on the clock, Eppard hit a jumper to pull her team to within 37-31 to end the half.

In the second, the Maroons came out with six points in a row to bump their lead to 43-31 while rolling the clock down to 15:05. Later in the period, the Spartans went on a 7-0 run and pulled to within 50-48 as Orcutt hit a jumper with 8:14 left to play. However, the Maroons responded with a 12-0 run and never looked back. 

The Spartans will wrap up their second consecutive UAA road weekend at No. 6/9 nationally ranked Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
